Witcher 3 from GMG
Witcher 3 from GMG
Anybody else get on the "super deal" from GMG and is sitting here staring at their screens waiting for a key?
Yeah. Sucks. Wish I knew it was gonna be a cluster fuck like this. Only saved 5 bucks over ordering directly from GOG, but GMG had never messed up for me before.

Naw, stuck with steam. In spite of the whole modding debacle, they've still done right by me. Figured I'd just stick with a solid thing.
With that said, haven't had time to play, haha. Hoping I get some in a bit here.

Re: Witcher 3 from GMG
Since I paid for it, I went ahead and downloaded a preload torrent and the day1 patch. I'll activate it in GOG whenever I get the key sent.
So far so good. Real easy to get into trouble exploring early on. Combat is ok. Character movement is a little too stiff? committed to the animations? Like once you do some sort of move, you are committed until it does the whole move. Fine movement on foot or horseback feels stiff because of it. Maybe I have autorun enabled for everything. Will have to check settings.
Biggest disappointment so far really is the cinematics are pretty choppy, and this is on medium settings at 1080, so nothing fancy, on a GTX970, 16GB RAM, 3.3 i7 5820K. Have the latest Nvidia driver, so not sure why it's doing that. Likely release version whatevers.
Be interesting to explore once I have some levels on me. So far it's nice, but it's the kind of game that you dont really get a good feel right away.

Disable the hairworks, or whatever it's called. Fixed the cutscene chopiness for me
Re: Witcher 3 from GMG
Also, in the graphics settings (wut?) enabled hardware cursor. MUCH better.

Re: Witcher 3 from GMG
lol, I've had freezes. One suggestion was to disable the hardware cursor, and vibration from the controller (that I'm not using). Bam, freezing stopped.
......lol
I'm sure this game will just be fantastic once these bumps get ironed out, but it's definitely bumpy so far. Haven't had more than an hour to play. Will get some more time in a few days here. Hopefully stuff will be fixed by then.

Re: Witcher 3 from GMG
I definitely want to try Witcher 3 at some point (and will eventually cave in and get it off steam in a year when prices have dropped 40% off whatever it is now)
Ironically, one thing that's given me pause is reading how it outpaces Skyrim in terms of overall breadth. Because while I did like Skyrim, it's still sitting unfinished at my PC partly because IT NEVER ENDS AND LYDIA'S RESTING BITCH FACE GETS OLD AFTER AWHILE. ahem.
Spoiled rottend Gen Xers like yours truly don't have that kind of attention span - at some point a game has to shit or get off the pot. I'm sure I'll be up for the marathon of Witcher 3 because damnit Geralt's got him some moxie but I'll be surprised if I finish it before 2017 :)

Re: Witcher 3 from GMG
It's like Skyrim in that you can follow the main storyline, or not. Your choice. I've played 3-4 hours so far and it's been mostly wandering around a bit and seeing what I find. Although I will say the random shit you find laying about is a bit more interesting than most of Skyrims stuff.
Probably wasted a bunch of money crafting some boots by accident instead of pants that would have been an upgrade, silly crap like that, but hey, why not? I did find some relic level ore pretty near the start, so I think this is encouraged :D.

Re: Witcher 3 from GMG
Got a little more time to play. Outstanding game. Very similar to the witcher 2 in feel, but much more room for exploration. Worth a look if you're on the fence. :)
Re: Witcher 3 from GMG
In chapter 4 of witcher one! Finally passed by my previous play location I was stuck at.
Hoping to be done with witcher 2, and then have a good sale on 3 :D

Re: Witcher 3 from GMG
Letting you start level 34 quests/contracts when you're level 4, not sure how I feel about that... Last night I went to the docks and got rocked. I saw the quest level before I went, so I expected it, but it definitely lets you do some really stupid things lol

Re: Witcher 3 from GMG
Not a whole lot of hand-holding. I'm liking it. Started my game over (too easy, want the achievement for max difficulty :D)
Apparently they're going to add a hardcore permadeath difficulty later. WOOO

Re: Witcher 3 from GMG
I think I'm spending too much time screwing around... Since I just hit level 5 lol. It's fun trying to kill things that're 10 levels higher then me and winning though.

Bug with the latest patch fyi (1.04). No xp gained from quests that should be in range. Wtb hotfix.
